The apartment itself was beautiful. Two of the three couples on our trip enjoyed seaside bedrooms with a balcony. The third couple (me and hubby) got the dark kids room in the back with the twin beds and the windows which looked out to the elevator. Kitchen was well stocked. Everything was very clean. The elevators were fast. They had lots of carts in the parking garage to easily transport luggage and groceries upstairs. Here is our issue. We came to play Pickleball. Most listings on these vacation rental apps don’t actually say pickleball included, so I always do my own research. When I saw the courts on map apps and read in a review how they enjoyed Pickleball, I thought we were good to go. (Note to vacasa, airbnb, vrbo, etc… Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the US by far. Maybe add pickleball to your search filters) On arrival, we learned that there are three different HOA’s within the Tops’l Resort, and they don’t always play well with others. The Tides HOA allowed the Beach Manor guests to use their basketball court, pool, and mini golf, but not their Pickleball courts. The courts are surrounded with high fencing and a code to get in (helpful hint: befriend a Tides resident). It didn’t matter in the long run, because two days into our vacation they shut down the courts to have them redone anyway… right in the middle of spring break. The Vacasa agent told me we could pay to play at Hidden Dunes down the road ($25 an hour per court). Not great news when you’ve just spent thousands. So I discovered a couple county parks where you can play for free. Driftwood Estates Park is about 13 minutes away and they had four courts that weren’t crowded (Vacasa… why wouldn’t you mention those??) Legion Park is a small bayside park about ten minutes away with one court. We didn’t play there. Also the South Walton Park has 8 beautiful free courts about 30 minutes away, so we took an afternoon to play there and then visited the quaint town of Seaside nearby. I’ve heard that the Tides HOA will be adding a pay-to-play option now that their courts have been redone. If that’s something you are looking for, I would call Tides to make sure.
Location was good. Condo provided all amenities that we needed. It was clean. Plenty of room for the 5 of us.
The view is great. Vacasa management is great. Plan was great. Enjoyed our stay.
The resort grounds, beachfront and gym are wonderful
We loved how close it was to the beach and the resort had everything we needed. All the staff we encountered were super friendly.
We did love the property. Wonderful views. Easy access to beach and pools. Very comfortable and enjoyable. We have recommended the property to other friends. We would absolutely stay again.
